Although our family dentist in Chicago, Il aims to call attention to children’s oral health every month of the year, the American Dental Association recognizes February as National Children’s Dental Health Month. Every year, they aim to spread awareness about the proper oral health techniques to parents, caretakers, teachers, and other influential roles in children’s lives. This year, the theme is “brush and clean in between to build a healthy smile.” Here are some tips to keep your children engaged in building and maintaining a bright, beautiful smile!

Lead by Example

Kids are easily influenced by what they see adults in their life doing. If you fuss about brushing and flossing your teeth, your kids will pick up on it. Take oral health as an opportunity to bond as a family, joining your child in the bathroom to show them the proper way that it is done. You will both benefit from this time together!

Incentivize

Nothing motivates kids more than an incentive! Encourage your child to brush and floss twice a day for 10 days straight and reward them with a trip to the movies. The exact prize and system that you use is up to you, but know that it is a powerful technique to keep kids motivated and engaged.
